Dileep critiques impact of political correctness on comedy films; says ‘Movies will become dry’

Mollywood actor Dileep has voiced his concerns about the encroachment of political correctness on the creative freedom of writers and filmmakers, particularly within the realm of comedy films.

In a recent interview with Red FM, Dileep expressed his opinion that the growing emphasis on political correctness is stifling the ability of artists to freely express themselves in the comedy genre.

“We have reached a time where expressing anything has become challenging. People caution me against certain dialogues, citing concerns about body shaming and potential criticism. I question whether political correctness is a law or just a set of opinions. If it were a law, we could abide by it without objection. Let political correctness take its course. If I am unaffected by someone mocking me, why impose restrictions?” remarked Dileep during the interview.

The actor further emphasized that imposing such limitations on films could lead to a decline in entertainment quality, making movies dry and less engaging. Drawing an example from the film ‘Kunjikoonan,’ Dileep highlighted a character engaging in a form of body shaming, yet he argued that there is a comedic essence to such dialogues.

Meanwhile, Dileep, after the superhit comedy film ‘Voice of Sathyanathan’, is gearing up for the release of the highly anticipated crime thriller, ‘Thankamani,’ scheduled to hit theaters on March 7.
