Für viele Rennfahrer ist es der erbärmlichste Ski-Witz des Jahres. Im Parallel-Bewerb der Weltmeisterschaft in Cortina setzt sich in den meisten Duellen nicht der Stärkere durch. Zu 90 Prozent kommen die Athleten eine Runde weiter, welche im zweiten auf dem deutlich schnelleren, blauen Kurs fahren dürfen. Trotz vernichtenden Kritiken aus dem Athleten-Lager und in der internationalen Medien-Landschaft will die FIS an diesem Format festhalten. Wenn auch nur halbherzig.

Im kommenden Weltcup-Winter werden die Damen und Herren einen einzigen Parallel-Riesenslalom bestreiten – am 13 und 14. November in Lech am Arlberg (Ö). Die stärksten Schweizer werden wir bei dieser Veranstaltung aber voraussichtlich nicht sehen. Marco Odermatt will sich in dieser Zeit genau wie WM-Bronzemedaillengewinner Loic Meillard und Justin Murisier lieber auf den Speed-Auftakt in Lake Louise konzentrieren.

Für den Walliser Klartexter Murisier gibt es aber noch zahlreiche weitere Gründe, die gegen die Dienstreise am Arlberg sprechen: «Wir wollen mit unserem Start-Verzicht auch ein Zeichen bei der FIS setzten. Die WM hat klar gezeigt, dass die Regeln im Parallel-Format nicht fair sind. Trotzdem hat die FIS die Regeln nicht angepasst. Deshalb macht für uns ein Start in dieser Disziplin auch keinen Sinn.»

Murisier, der im letzten Winter beim Spezial-Riesenslalom Dritter wurde, setzt noch einen obendrauf: «Wegen dem geringen Abstand zwischen den beiden Kursen ist die Verletzungsgefahr im Parallel-Riesen besonders gross. Der Skisport eignet sich nicht für das Duell Mann gegen Mann. Wir sollten uns weiterhin auf den Kampf gegen die Zeit konzentrieren.»

Auch die Frauen nerven sich

Die Parallel-Rennen stossen auch bei den Schweizer Ski-Frauen auf wenig Gegenliebe. Mélanie Meillard sagt: «Jede Disziplin ist gefährlich. Aber diese noch etwas mehr. Für mich lohnt es sich nicht, für ein Rennen im Winter so viel Arbeit zu investieren.» Andrea Ellenberger spricht ebenfalls von einem Risiko: «Stürzt jemand und rutscht dem anderen in die Beine, könnte das schlimme Schnittverletzungen hervorrufen.»

Michelle Gisin verzichtet ebenfalls seit jeher auf die Rennen im K.o-Modus. «Ich war von Anfang an kein Fan dieser Wettkämpfe. Eigentlich wollte man für sie einen eigenen Ski bauen. Doch das geschah nie. Die Folge ist, dass die Radien nicht passen.»

Murisier: «Das haben wir nicht kapiert»

Zurück zu Murisier. Was würde er als FIS-Verantwortlicher tun, damit Ski- Rennsport wieder mehr Anerkennung findet? «Der Skisport ist attraktiv genug, wir müssen die klassischen Disziplinen nicht auswechseln. Im Fussball bleibt das Spiel auch immer gleich. Aber die Fussballer entwickeln ständig neue Vermarktungsmethoden- das haben wir im Skisport noch nicht kapiert.»

Fraglich, ob der neue FIS-Präsident Johan Eliasch für die Entwicklung von neuen Formaten die richtigen Leute engagiert hat. Die Leitung seiner «Alpine Future-Group» übernimmt der langjährige ÖSV-Präsident Peter Schröcksnadel. Das tönt nach dem nächsten schlechten Witz, wenn man bedenkt, dass der Tiroler im Juli 80 wurde.
