Coffee is a complex mixture of many chemical compounds, some of which may have beneficial effects on health, including kidney health. Some observational studies associate drinking more coffee to a lower risk of developing chronic kidney disease among coffee drinkers. Consuming more coffee seems to have a protective affect against kidney disease. Further study is needed to determine whether a coffee-based intervention is effective for prevention or treatment of kidney disease. Those struggling with blood pressure management should drink less than three cups of coffee per day.

It causes a short sudden rise in blood pressure. Research has not demonstrated drinking three to four cups of coffee a day leads to an increment in kidney disease risk or increasing rate of decline of kidney function. But having coffee in moderation is a suitable idea. Anyone struggling with blood pressure control must drink below three cups each day.

If coffee is consumed in moderate amount, it does not harm the kidneys. However drinking about three to four cups of coffee can raise potassium levels. Also, if you are on a restricted fluid diet due to kidney disease, one must be cautious about amount of coffee since it does include as fluid.
