MELAKA: Melaka police have launched a massive manhunt to track down three armed robbers after an elderly couple were injured during a break-in into a village home in Kampung Brisu, Simpang Ampat in Alor Gajah, here.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad said the robbery occurred at 11.40pm on Saturday (Feb 17).

He said four men armed with machetes had entered the house to rob it while the couple, aged 70 and 60 years old, respectively, were resting at home.

“The male victim sustained serious injuries on his back after he was slashed with a sharp object.

“The victim’s wife also suffered injuries, and both of them were rushed to Alor Gajah Hospital for treatment,” he said on Sunday(Feb 18).

Supt Arshad said, based on information received from the victims, the suspects drove a silver car.

“Melaka police headquarters, reinforced by the Alor Gajah team, dispatched its men to the scene once an alert was issued,” he said.

Supt Arshad said one of the suspects was detained while hiding in the bushes about 200m from the crime scene early Sunday (Feb18) morning.

He said a brief scuffle occurred when the suspect tried to escape the police.

Supt Arshad said his men also retrieved a bag belonging to the victims from the suspect.

He said upon interrogation, the suspect admitted to committing the robbery with three others still at large.

“The suspect, who has a criminal record with 17 drug-related offences and five serious crimes, was also found positive for drugs during a urine test,” he said, adding that the investigation is ongoing under Section 394 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.
