Production House Thirrupathi Brothers Lodges Complaint Against Kamal Haasan With Tamil Film Producers Council

Director Lingusamy’s production house, Thirrupathi Brothers, has urged the Tamil Film Producers Council to impress upon actor-politician Kamal Haasan to keep his promise of acting in a film for the production house. Kamal Haasan had agreed to act in a film to make for the losses his film Uttama Villain had caused the firm.

The banner has asked the council to help negotiate with Kamal Haasan so that he could complete the project he had promised for them.

Director Lingusamy, who produced Kamal Haasan-starrer Uttama Villain (2015), confirmed earlier in January 2023, that the actor had promised to work with them on another film to compensate the losses they had incurred.

However, Thirrupathi Brothers claimed that the award-winning actor had not honoured his commitment, leading the firm to file a complaint against him to the Tamil Film Producers Council

As per the statement released by the makers, they have asked the Producers Council to intervene the matter, since the promise to collaborate was made nine years ago. According to the complaint, the Producers association have been requested to negotiate with Kamal Haasan and help him agree to the story of their choice. It has also been stated in the complaint that the producers are facing immense pressure from those who loaned them money.

In an interview to a Youtube Channel earlier this year, director Lingusamy, spoke about Uttama Villain, and said that the film was a box office disaster. He further said that it plunged his production house into a financial crisis. The filmmaker claimed that Haasan had promised to do a movie for the production house .

Lingusamy went on to claim that he never interfered with the making of Uttama Villain, but asked Haasan to make several changes after the film was wrapped up. “Kamal Sir told me that whatever problem arises after the film is released, he will take care of it, but he wanted to do the film as his dream project. I told him I would not interfere at all but would ask for some corrections after the film was completed. Likewise, we went with a list of corrections to him, and after listening to all of them, he didn’t correct anything.”
