pvr malayalam film industry tussle ends pvr to resume screening malayalam films
The stand-off between popular Multiplex Chain PVR-INOX And the Malayalam film industry over the Virtual Print Fee (VPF) has come to an end.
The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) had on Saturday announced that no Malayalam films would be given to any PVR INOX-owned screens till the producers were compensated for the losses they suffered owing to PVR suddenly pulling out all currently-running Malayalam films as well as halting the bookings for new releases on Eid.
FEFKA General Secretary Unnikrishnan B had announced this at a press conference where Aadujeevitham director Blessy and Varshangalkku Sesham director Vineeth Sreenivasan were also present.
The Tussle Comes To An End
Now, the latest update is that the dispute between the multiplex theatre chain PVR-INOX and the Malayalam cinema associations have been resolved, and PVR has agreed to continue screening Malayalam films. The decision was taken in an online meeting between representatives of the Malayalam film organizations and representatives of PVR.
Not much information has been revealed on whether the multiplex chain will compensate the producers of the Malayalam films that had been denied screenings, which was FEFKA’s primary demand as per their statement provided to the media at the press conference on Saturday.
PVR’s Announcement
An announcement re-tweeted by Kamal Gianchandani, CEO of PVR Pictures Limited, on Saturday evening stated that the multiplex chain was ready to screen Malayalam films from Vishu (April 14), after stopping screening of films in the language on Eid (April 11).
The statement read:
“#PVRINOX vs Kerala Film Producers Association issue over #VPF resolved! #PVRINOX Will start advance booking in all their properties for new and earlier released #Malayalam films with immediate effect. Probably from late tonight or tomorrow- #Vishu day!”
