Os presidentes de Portugal e Cabo Verde afastaram esta terça-feira o espetro das reparações e celebraram uma “relação de excelência”, “sem tabus”, ao discursar num encontro com a comunidade portuguesa, na Praia.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa descreveu o acolhimento no arquipélago como algo que “não tem qualificativos. É mais do que uma mera fraternidade, é uma cumplicidade” que responde a “algumas angústias” que possam existir sobre o passado.

“Tenho a sensação de que nos damos melhor do que da última vez. A cooperação é melhor”, assim como “a partilha e a parceria entre os dois países e governos é melhor”, acrescentou, depois de, durante a tarde, referir que as reparações que Portugal deve às ex-colónias já estarem a ser concretizadas através da cooperação bilateral.

“Até fico preocupado porque, normalmente, quando tudo corre a este nível de excelência, começamos a pensar: o que é que pode correr um bocadinho menos bem? Mas não conseguimos encontrar nada”, disse Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

Durante a receção à comunidade portuguesa na residência do embaixador português em Cabo Verde, Marcelo disse depois ao seu homólogo José Maria Neves que assumisse o papel protocolar habitualmente reservado ao Presidente português e fosse ele o último a discursar.

O chefe de Estado cabo-verdiano aludiu às questões que lhe têm sido feitas pelos jornalistas sobre as declarações de Marcelo, acerca das reparações, para dizer que “não há temas tabu em democracia”.

“E, entre nós, com a maturidade que já temos, podemos conversar como gente que se entende”, referiu, depois de, durante o dia, ter remetido o tema para um debate com “serenidades”.

“Não haverá nenhuma tempestade no futuro em relação aos debates que nós podemos fazer. Cabo Verde e Portugal entendem-se muito bem. As relações são excelentes, muito maduras. E de todas as nossas discussões podem ainda sair novas luzes para construirmos um novo futuro”, disse.

José Maria Neves quer que Portugal “continue a ser esse país farol”, cuja revolução “se transformou em cravos” e promoveu a democracia.

“Tenho certeza que juntos vamos continuar a seguir esse caminho do reforço das liberdades de afirmação da democracia”, concluiu.

Os dois chefes de Estado voltarão a estar juntos na quarta-feira para as comemorações dos 50 anos de libertação do campo de concentração do Tarrafal, em que participam também o Presidente da Guiné-Bissau, Sissoco Embalo, e o ministro da Defesa de Angola em representação do chefe de Estado, João Lourenço.
