Former President Donald Trump has been removed from the Illinois primary ballot.
Cook County Circuit Judge Tracie R. Porter made the ruling on Wednesday, February 28, though it’s been stayed until Friday, March 1 as an appeal to the Illinois Appellate or Supreme Court is expected, Knewz.com has learned.

According to CBS News, Trump’s team responded swiftly. “This is an unconstitutional ruling that we will quickly appeal,” Trump’s campaign spokesman, Steven Cheung, said.
The state’s primary is scheduled for March 19.
Trump was previously removed from primary ballots in Colorado and Maine. However, the United States Supreme Court is expected to make a ruling on the constitutionality of such moves soon.

If the Supreme Court rules in Trump’s favor, the bans will be tossed out.
The states that have taken Trump off the ballot or are considering doing so have cited the former president’s role in the January 6, 2021 insurrection of the state capitol.
At the center of the push to keep Trump off primary ballots is Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which disqualifies officials who have sworn to support the Constitution from serving in government if they are involved in an insurrection.

Section 3 was originally intended to keep former Confederates from getting into office. However, it was enacted in Colorado when the state’s supreme court ruled that Trump’s involvement in the January 6 riots made him ineligible for the presidency.
CBS 2 legal analyst Irv Miller said Illinois” ruling is “absolutely meaningless” in the big picture.
“[The U.S. Supreme Court has] the two big cases right now — on the Colorado case throwing him off the ballot because of the Fourteenth Amendment, and the question of whether or not he has presidential immunity,” Miller said.
On April 22, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments about whether or not Trump has immunity in connection to the insurrection. The former president was indicted for trying to overturn the 2020 election.

The U.S. Appeals Court rejected the immunity claim earlier this month.
The Supreme Court’s timing could play a significant role in the 2024 election.
“They could hear the case on April 22, and not make a decision until July if that’s what they want to do. They could also make a decision a whole lot quicker,” said Miller. “Frankly, it’s totally up to the judges.”
Trump, meanwhile, has shifted his focus toward current President Joe Biden as he seeks a return to the White House.

Biden underwent his annual physical on Wednesday, February 28 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and Dr. Kevin O’Connor said, “the president feels well” and that the test “identified no new concerns” according to ABC News.
Despite the evaluation, Trump questioned Biden’s cognitive ability on Thursday, February 29 as the president has made several gaffes in recent months.
“Crooked Joe Biden must take a Cognitive Test. Maybe that way we would be able to find out why he makes such terrible decisions. I took two of them, and ACED them both (no mistakes!). All Presidents, or people wanting to become President, should mandatorily take this test!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
