Premam fame Alphonse Puthren to direct a Tamil film next
Director Alphonse Puthren, who developed a cult following among film buffs in Tamil Nadu with his 2015 Malayalam romantic film Premam, which starred Nivin Pauly and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles. While the filmmaker took six years to follow it up with another movie — the 2022 Malayalam film Gold, with Prithviraj and Nayanthara playing the lead roles — he is now all set to begin work on his next. And this time, he will be directing a Tamil film!
“My new venture is with my old friend and producer Raahul. @romeopicturesoffl . Thanks to Shenbagamoorthy sir 😀❤️🙏. Bless us with prayers and love,” the acclaimed director shared on his Instagram page, and also posted a pic of him with Raahul and Shenbagamoorthy, who handles one of the top distribution and production houses in Tamil Nadu — Red Giant Films.
Interestingly, the production house had distributed Alphonse’s debut film, the black comedy Neram, in 2013!
Speaking to us, Raahul said, “This new film from Alphonse will be a romantic film. We are currently in the casting stage and will be able to lock the actors and announce the cast in 10-12 days. While Alphonse will be making this in Tamil, he’s also planning to choose a pan-Indian cast so that the project can travel across industries.”
Raahul, who is also bankrolling Kavin’s next venture, which will mark choreographer-actor Sathish’s directorial debut, adds that Alphonse is planning to get the film on floors by April-end.
This new film is expected to be a comeback for Alphonse after Gold, which, despite the tremendous pre-release hype, met with mixed reactions from both the audiences and critics.
