Preiserhöhung um 3 Prozent: Inflation im Euroraum auf Zehn-Jahreshoch

Die Inflation im Euroraum ist so hoch wie seit rund zehn Jahren nicht mehr. Die Verbraucherpreise kletterten im August binnen Jahresfrist um 3,0 Prozent, wie die europäische Statistikbehörde Eurostat am Freitag mitteilte und damit eine frühere Schätzung bestätigte.

Es ist die höchste Inflationsrate seit November 2011. Im Juli hatte die Rate noch bei 2,2 Prozent gelegen.

Besonders stark verteuerte sich im August erneut Energie, die 15,4 Prozent teurer war als ein Jahr zuvor. Preise für Industriegüter stiegen um 2,6 Prozent. Lebens- und Genussmittel kosteten 2,0 Prozent mehr als vor einem Jahr. Dienstleistungen waren 1,1 Prozent teurer.

Die Kernteuerungsrate ohne Energie und Lebensmittel stieg ebenfalls deutlich. Sie erhöhte sich von 0,7 Prozent auf 1,6 Prozent. Die Kerninflation gilt vielen Ökonomen als zuverlässigere Messgrösse für die Teuerung, da sie in der Regel weniger stark schwankt.

Die Europäische Zentralbank (EZB) strebt mittelfristig eine Teuerung von 2,0 Prozent an. Schon im Juli hatte die Inflation mit 2,2 Prozent über dem EZB-Ziel gelegen. Vor allem die Energiepreise sorgen für Auftrieb, die im Vorjahr wegen den Folgen der Corona-Pandemie in die Tiefe gerauscht waren.

Die hochschnellenden Teuerungsraten werden aus Sicht von EZB-Chefin Christine Lagarde jedoch ein vorübergehendes Phänomen bleiben. Die EZB geht zwar davon aus, dass der Preisauftrieb im Herbst noch steigen, aber schon nächstes Jahr nachlassen wird. Für 2022 erwarten die Volkswirte der Zentralbank eine Teuerung von 1,7 Prozent und für 2023 von 1,5 Prozent.

Die niedrigsten Teuerungsraten wurden im August in Malta (0,4 Prozent), Griechenland (1,2 Prozent) and Portugal (1,3 Prozent) gemessen. Am stärksten war der Preisauftrieb in Estland und Litauen mit jeweils 5,0 Prozent. In Deutschland lag die Inflationsrate nach der für den europäischen Vergleich herangezogenen Rate (HVPI) bei 3,4 Prozent.
