Ulajh teaser: Janhvi Kapoor steps out of her comfort zone, but isn’t ready to bow down to ‘dangerous’ personal conspiracy

“The cost of betrayal is life. Give your own, or take someone else’s,” says the diplomat Suhana (Janhvi Kapoor), before screaming at the top of her lungs and launching an attack on someone with her hairpin. The official teaser for Ulajh is here, highlighting that the movie focuses on a high-stakes geopolitical conflict.

The 56-second promo video begins with a tune similar to “Sare Jahan se Accha” playing in the background. We see a foreign country’s skyline, and Suhana enters the screen, engaging in chats with fellow diplomats from other nations. “Suhana, do you really believe that everything you have done has been for your country?” someone asks her ominously.

A voiceover says, “Betrayal, loyalty, etc., are just words designed to trap people like us. These nations, borders, etc., are just lines drawn in the sand. They are not worth anything.” The teaser showcases visuals with heightened tension, where Suhana can be seen unravelling certain mysteries, despite the shock it brings her. But she is not ready to bow down and is determined to take vengeance for betrayal.

Ulajh follows the journey of a young diplomat, belonging to a prominent family of patriots, who gets embroiled in a dangerous personal conspiracy while far from her home turf.

After wrapping up filming for Ulajh, Janhvi penned a long note on Instagram, narrating her experiences and what the movie means to her. “Still having dreams of the world we tried to create. Each film has been a lesson, and it’s story deeply and coincidently intertwined with things happening in my life. And through Suhana’s journey, and the journey of making this film – my biggest learning has been to allow yourself to love what you do, to identify if you’re doing it for the right reasons, to let go of baggage and external pressures and opinions,” she wrote while sharing a couple of pictures from the film’s set.

“To get off a hamster wheel that leads to nowhere and let yourself walk to your own pace, as long as you believe in where you’re going. Sudhanshu, you have made me believe in myself in a way that I didn’t even know I needed. You made me feel heard, and seen and made me want to fight battles that I never knew I had a right to even be a part of. To see you smile in the face of each obstacle and embrace each challenge with enthusiasm is beyond inspiring.”

Helmed by Loev director Sudhanshu Saria, Ulajh also stars Gulshan Devaiah, Roshan Mathew, Meiyang Chang, Rajesh Tailang, and Adil Hussain in key roles. Scripted by Parveez Shaikh and Sudhanshu Saria, with dialogues penned by Atika Chauhan, the film will hit the screens on July 5, 2024.
