Home prices in 9 N.J. towns rank among top 150 in nation

Four New Jersey towns now rank in the top 80 for most expensive home values in the nation, according to the latest data for January from Zillow.

Five other Garden State towns also made the top 150 list from Zillow. All of the New Jersey towns on the list had typical home values of more than $1.8 million.

Deal, a Jersey Shore borough near Asbury Park, ranked 27 in the nation with a typical home value of $3.36 million as of January.

Alpine in Bergen County ranked 47 nationwide. The neighboring Jersey Shore resort towns of Avalon (66) and Stone Harbor (80) also made the top 100.

Statewide, the typical home value was $497,292 in January. Nationwide, home values sat at $342,941, according to the data.

Zillow’s calculation of “typical home value” is a trimmed mean, and behaves like a median value would to get a more accurate representation estimate, Jeff Tucker, senior economist at Zillow told NJ Advance Media.
