MOSCOU (Reuters) – Vladimir Poutine a accepté de retirer les soldats et gardes-frontières russes de plusieurs régions d’Arménie, a déclaré jeudi le porte-parole du président russe cité par l’agence de presse Interfax.

Cette annonce fait suite au départ de près de 2.000 “casques bleus” russes de la région du Haut-Karabakh et de ses environs, que l’Azerbaïdjan a repris par la force en septembre dernier. Leur départ met fin à plusieurs années de présence sur place, ce qui a permis à Moscou de s’implanter militairement dans cette région stratégique du Caucase du Sud.

Le porte-parole du Kremlin, Dmitri Peskov, a déclaré jeudi que Vladimir Poutine et le Premier ministre arménien, Nikol Pashinyan, étaient parvenus à un accord sur un nouveau retrait de soldats russes lors d’une réunion qui s’est tenue mercredi à Moscou.

“À l’automne 2020, à la demande de l’Arménie, nos militaires et nos gardes-frontières ont été déployés dans un certain nombre de régions arméniennes. Nikol Pashinyan a déclaré qu’à l’heure actuelle, en raison de l’évolution de la situation, cela n’était plus nécessaire. Le Président Poutine a donc donné son accord et le retrait de nos militaires et de nos gardes-frontières a été décidé”, a déclaré Dimitri Peskov à Interfax.

Le site d’informations Spoutnik Armenia a cité un haut responsable du parti au pouvoir en Arménie, qui a déclaré que les dirigeants russe et arménien avaient convenu du retrait des forces et gardes-frontières russes de cinq régions arméniennes.

Des gardes-frontières russes demeureront toutefois déployés aux frontières de l’Arménie avec la Turquie et l’Iran, à la demande d’Erevan, selon Interfax.
