Portal Purge: Several Nittany Lions Enter The Transfer Portal
For those of you who had been keeping track, the Penn State Nittany Lions were a number of scholarships over the 85 limit. That particular conundrum has been solved with the revelation of several entries into the transfer portal at the end of the spring window.
Safety King Mack, running backs David Kency and London Montgomery, offensive lineman Golden Israel-Achumba, and wide receiver Malik McClain have all officially entered the transfer portal, who, along with KeAndre Lambert-Smith and some creative NIL solutions, put Penn State within the scholarship limit of 85 per academic year.
Of the new departures, it’s easy to see that many, if not all of the outgoing players figured to be depth pieces, so in the grand scheme of things, the Lions will be in no worse position than they were prior to these entries, and, if the contributions of any these players became necessary in 2024, we probably have much bigger issues to be concerned with in the first place.
That of course is not to disparage the contributions each player has made to the team. But, as with any program that hopes to contribute at the pinnacle of the sport, this type of attrition is to be expected.
We wish nothin but the best for each outgoing player, and hopefully they have great careers where they end up!
