Polónia e Lituânia inauguraram esta quinta-feira um gasoduto, com vista a reduzir a dependência energética da Rússia. Uma via para transporte de gás natural, ao longo 508 km que custou 500 milhões de euros e passa a unir a Lituânia, os países do Báltico e Finlândia ao mercado da União Europeia.
“Este é um dia especial para a Lituânia e a Polónia, bem como para os nossos outros vizinhos bálticos – Letónia, Estónia e Finlândia. Hoje estamos a consolidar a nossa independência energética e a reforçar a nossa resistência à pressão política e à chantagem energética do Leste”, afirmou o presidente lituano, durante o discurso de inauguração.
A solução polaco-lituana pode no entanto não ser a resposta mais adequada a todos os países com dependência energética da Rússia, tal como explicou à Euronews uma investigadora do Instituto de Oxford para os Estudos Energéticos
De acordo com a investigadora Katya Yafimavam, do Instituto de Oxford para os Estudos Energéticos, “o (que a Lituânia fez não é uma espécie de receita para todos os outros países europeus fazerem, porque quer queiram, quer não, muitos países europeus dependem do gás russo em volumes muito mais elevados e não têm essa possibilidade. Falo de países como a Alemanha, por exemplo, ou a Itália, entre outros”.
A diversificação de fontes energéticas tornou-se fulcral nas últimas semanas para a União Europeia, depois de o grupo russo Gazprom ter anunciado a suspensão unilateral de fornecimento de gás à Polónia e à Bulgária, dois Estados-membros que se recusaram a pagar em rublos
