Tony Bobulinski’s attorney slams Democratic spin of his client’s testimony: ‘Disingenuous mischaracterizations’

The Democratic minority leader of the House Oversight Committee engaged in “character assassination” and leveled “false allegations” related to Tony Bobulinski’s testimony in President Biden’s impeachment inquiry, a lawyer for the former Biden family business associate said Wednesday.

Attorney Stefan Passantino highlighted the “abusive conduct and disingenuous mischaracterizations” of Bobulinski’s testimony in a scathing letter to Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the ranking member of the Oversight Committee, obtained by The Post.

“Minority assassination of Mr. Bobulinski’s character and grotesque mischaracterizations of his words will only serve to highlight the gaslighting and vilification Mr. Bobulinski has endured since he reluctantly came forward almost four years ago to share with the public the facts of his business experience with the Biden family,” Passantino wrote.

“As the public will see soon enough, Mr. Bobulinski has the facts and the receipts, and no amount of character assassination will change that.”

Raskin said Tuesday that Bobulinski “did not provide any evidence of wrongdoing by President Biden, nor did he provide any evidence at all that President Biden was involved in his family’s business dealings” during his more than eight hours testimony.

Passantino called Maryland Democrat’s assertion “categorically false,” arguing that “false mischaracterizations will have no place in this debate.”

Bobulinski’s lawyer also took issue with Raskin’s claim that his client “accused multiple FBI agents of lying.”

“As the transcript will show, Mr. Bobulinski did NOT accuse the FBI of lying about his voluntary statements before them in October 2020,” Passantino wrote. “The transcript will show that when Mr. Bobulinski was asked by the Minority about second-hand accounts of his words rather than asking him direct questions, Mr. Bobulinski simply corrected errors in the FBI’s internal 302 report about his statements.”

“As Mr. Bobulinski testified yesterday, these errors could have been corrected years ago if Mr. Bobulinski had been shown the FBI’s internal summary or if ANY government agency had reached out to us at the time.”

“Mr. Bobulinski will vigorously defend his honor, reputation and patriotism against all who choose to ignore the facts and deflect from the truth by issuing falsehoods and engaging in rank character assassination,” Passantino added. “The truth is coming – and those who choose to knowingly perpetuate false narratives by dishonestly attacking Mr. Bobulinski will find themselves on the wrong side of history.”

Bobulinski — a former Navy officer who worked with first son Hunter Biden and first brother James on a venture with CEFC China Energy — is considered one of the Republicans’ best hopes of cementing testimony linking the president to foreign deals.

The House Oversight Committee, one of three congressional panels handling the Biden impeachment inquiry, has yet to release a full transcript of Bobulinski’s testimony.

“Tony Bobulinski articulated under oath that Joe Biden was ‘the brand’ the Bidens sold to enrich the family,” Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) said Tuesday, calling the ex-Biden business associate “unshakeable in his testimony.”

“Tony Bobulinski testified he believes Joe Biden committed wrongdoing and continues to lie to the American people about his participation in his family’s influence peddling schemes.”

Comer also accused Democrats of yelling at Bobulinski, cutting him off, belittling him and threatening the former Navy officer during his testimony.
