Polar explorer Roald Amundsen’s birthplace opens to the public

Polar explorer Roald Amundsen’s birthplace opens to the public

From Saturday, June 12, the public will be able to visit the house where the Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen was born.

The birthplace itself is a skipper’s house from 1858, which is located close to Fredrikstad. The house opens along with a new accompanying exhibition about Amundsen’s life and discoveries.

In the skipper’s house, which is called Tomta, a guided tour will be given once an hour throughout the day, the Roald Amundsen Foundation’s birthplace wrote in a press release.

The exhibition has been established in collaboration with the Fram Museum and contains several hitherto unknown images of the explorer.
