PN can get up to 5% of Chinese votes in KKB polls, says Lau
Gerakan president Dominic Lau says voters must express whatever dissatisfaction they have through the ballot box.
HULU SELANGOR: Gerakan president Dominic Lau says Perikatan Nasional expects only a small number of Chinese voters to support the coalition in tomorrow’s Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
However, he said, Gerakan expects many Chinese voters to also abstain from voting to express their dissatisfaction towards Pakatan Harapan.
He urged this group to support PN, of which Gerakan is a member.
“Based on feedback from the local Chinese community, we concluded that we will gain at most 5% of the Chinese votes,” Lau told a press conference here today.
“We heard that many Chinese are either unwilling to vote or return to Kuala Kubu Baharu to vote. Whatever dissatisfaction you have, you must express it through the ballot box.”
Lau urged the “five special segments” of Chinese voters to support PN.
“The first are those who are unhappy with the rising costs of living and declining ringgit,” he said.
“The second are the Chinese who fall under the B40 income group. You can use your vote to tell the government that the rakyat are living in hardship now.
“The third segment comprises those who are sympathetic towards the death of Teoh Beng Hock. You must come out to vote for PN so that the government will learn that the rakyat can decide the government’s fate.
“The fourth are MCA members who feel insulted by the DAP leadership, and the last are local DAP members who are unhappy with the party’s decision to parachute an outsider instead of fielding a local candidate,” he said.
Responding to PH supporters who said they would vote for the coalition to continue enjoying a lower electricity bill, Lau said these voters should “accept the reality” of the rising costs of living.
“This is a reality that no one can escape. We can see that the price of rice, chicken, eggs and cooking oil have all gone up. You were given a small benefit of a cheaper electricity bill but everything else is getting more expensive.
“If you vote for us, you’ll be letting the government know that the rakyat is suffering and unhappy (with their performance in handling these issues),” he said.
