New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused Congress of “double standards” as he addressed the issues of wealth redistribution during an exclusive interview with Times Now. Engaging in a candid dialogue with Times Group Editor-In-Chief Navika Kumar, PM Modi responded to the ongoing manifesto battle between the BJP and Congress. When asked about Congress’s accusation that the BJP is trying to instil fear among people by raising the issues of wealth redistribution and inheritance tax, he mentioned that his predecessor Manmohan Singh had said that “Muslims have first claim on country’s resources.”
“In their manifesto and speeches, one has to compare them. They (Congress leaders) are repeatedly saying it and it’s mentioned in their manifesto. Twice, Manmohan Singh had said publicly that Muslims have the first right to the country’s resources,” PM Modi said.

Notably, the Congress party has distanced itself from the wealth redistribution statement after it sparked off a widespread debate saying its manifesto nowhere talks about this issue and it caters only to the welfare of the masses. However, PM Modi, in a belligerent attack, questioned their stance as he asked “Can anyone tell me, has such a practice been used in any developing country in the world?”

For the unversed, the controversy gained traction when Indian Overseas Congress chairperson Sam Pitroda advocated a US-like inheritance tax in India. The Congress distanced itself from the senior leader’s statements, clarifying that it does not represent the party’s stance. Congress’s Jairam Ramesh stated that “sensationalising his comments now and tearing them out of context are deliberate and desperate attempts at diverting attention away from Narendra Modi’s malicious and mischievous election campaign.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been on an extensive campaign trail spanning from Jammu in the North to Thiruvananthapuram in the South, aiming for a resounding victory symbolised by the slogan ‘Abki Baar 400 Paar’, envisioning a triumph of 400 seats.

Lok Sabha Election Schedule
As the Lok Sabha Election unfolds, the schedule progresses through its phases. The polling for the first two phases has already occurred on April 19 and April 26 respectively. The third phase is slated for May 7, followed by the fourth phase on May 13, the fifth on May 20, the sixth on May 25, and the final seventh phase on June 1. Vote counting is scheduled for June 4.
