lok sabha elections 2024 pm narendra modi calls reservation atonement for sins of our ancestors’ says till modi is alive solapur rally

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated that he would not allow scrapping of reservation for the SCs, STs, and OBCs and added that till he is alive, he won’t allow reservation based on religion as well. Addressing a rally in Maharashtra’s Solapur, the Prime Minister called the reservation a mode of dispensing social justice to oppressed and backward classes which is “atonement for the sins our ancestors may have committed”.

Responding to the opposition’s attack that the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) is willing to take away reservation in long term, PM Modi told the crowd that they can check his record as he always had the numbers but “I never wanted to walk that path (revoking reservation)”.

“Forget me, even Babasaheb Ambedkar (had he been alive) wouldn’t be able to scrap reservation in India. I am committed to upholding that policy for all oppressed classes, SCs, STs and OBCs,” he added.

He also slammed the Congress and said that he could give in writing that Congress wants to expand nationwide the “Karnataka model” of granting reservation to Muslims through the OBC quota and the same would fail. “Till Modi is alive, he won’t allow such a reservation policy,” the Prime Minister said.

“Neeyat sahi hai to natije bhi sahi milte hai (an honest motive will yield a positive result),” the PM added.

In an interview to The Times of India, the PM had called out Congress’ “sinister plan” to redistribute the properties of other communities to the minorities. He said the threat is “very real” and stands to hurt India irreversibly.

“As it can’t touch minorities, it will eye properties of other communities,” he said in the interview . PM Modi has been hitting out at the Congress over inheritance tax and wealth redistribution, claiming that the party wants to redistribute people’s jewellery and small savings to muslims. The Congress has hit back saying that the assumptions were illogical.
