In the NBA, split-second decisions make or break the game. And as he has spent more than two decades in the league, LeBron James has seen his fair share of good and bad decisions. Even though he is known for his high basketball IQ, Bron is not immune to making some irrational decisions after all he is just human.
In his podcast with JJ Redick, four-time league MVP gives a rare look inside the mind of the NBA player, and he openly discusses the game’s nuances. Bron is known for his meticulous approach to the game and willingness to spend countless hours in film sessions. He gets irked when he sees a lazy approach and urges players to take the game more seriously.
Players skip film sessions
In the recent podcast episode, the duo discussed the three-point shooting and how it changed the game. The Chosen One is not known as a great three-point shooter, but he understands how it helped him as it opened a lane for him and allowed his team to play many new offensive sets.
When discussing some great shooting motions, he referenced his arch rivals during Cleveland days, the Golden State Warriors; with Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry in their prime, they would shoot the lights every game. So, when looking at one of the lazy defensive plays against them, Bron got a bit frustrated with the state of the game.
“If Klay is underneath the charge block, are you thinking he’s gonna stay down there?” a confused James asked.
JJ immediately caught that reaction and asked Bron for his view on the problem.
“They don’t watch basketball. It’s that simple. I’ve realized they only watch highlights, and they don’t watch basketball,” added LeBron.
Bron is trying to educate the fans and players
As he has endured numerous battles with the league’s best and has earned his fair share of wins and losses, it makes sense that LeBron uses his platform to educate viewers and young hoopers. Having spent more time in the NBA than out of it, he is somebody who can make good assumptions and show mistakes.
With the Lakers outside of the playoff picture, we can be certain that King James and his buddy JJ will follow the game closely and address things that a call fan might miss, but a league veteran and a student of the game for sure won’t.
