Moroccan passport ranks first in North Africa, 71st globally

In the latest global passport ranking by Henley & Partners, the Moroccan passport has climbed to the 71st position, marking a one-place improvement from its 72nd spot in the previous year’s classification.

This advancement allows Moroccans visa-free access to 71 countries worldwide.

Over the past few years, the Moroccan passport has shown consistent progress in the index, moving from 85th in 2021 to 83rd in 2022 and reaching 72nd in 2023.

Regionally, the Moroccan passport shares the top spot in the Maghreb with the Tunisian passport, both ranking 71st globally. Mauritania follows as the second-highest in the Maghreb at 83rd globally, trailed by Algeria at 86th and Libya at 98th.

On a global scale, passports from France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Japan, and Singapore lead the pack, granting their holders access to 194 countries without a visa. Finland, South Korea, and Sweden closely follow in second place, providing visa-free travel to 193 destinations.

In the Middle East and North Africa, the Emirati passport takes the lead, securing the 11th position globally and advancing four places from the previous ranking. It allows entry into 183 countries without a visa. The State of Qatar ranks 53rd globally, while Kuwait, Bahrain, the Sultanate of Oman, and Saudi Arabia follow at 55th, 59th, 60th, and 61st positions.

Seychelles emerges as the African continent’s most powerful passport, claiming the 26th spot globally, followed by Mauritius at 30th and South Africa sharing the 53rd position with Doha.

The Afghan passport ranks at the bottom of the list, securing the 104th position globally, with access to only 29 countries without a visa. Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, and Yemen also find themselves at the lower end of the passport ranking.
