Joe Worrall in action for Forest
Joe Worrall was surprisingly left out by Besiktas boss Fernando Santos for their Super Lig win against Konyaspor on Monday night.
The Nottingham Forest defender had played the full 90 minutes as he made his debut for Besiktas in a 0-0 draw with Kayserispor in their previous match, following his loan move earlier this month.
But, despite helping Besiktas keep a clean sheet in his first match, he was named on the subs’ bench by Santos against Konyaspor, with Necip Uysal preferred in defence. Santos was asked why Worrall did not play in the 2-0 win, and he said: “Necip is playing great.
“An incredible professional, tactical and aggressive. The reason he doesn’t play is Necip’s fault. Because Necip is one of the best in the team.”
It was claimed ahead of Monday’s match that Besiktas already want to make Worrall’s transfer from Forest permanent. His loan deal, which runs for the rest of this season, includes a clause allowing Besiktas to make the move permanent in the summer.
And according to reports in Turkey, Worrall has already impressed the club so much they are making plans to strike a permanent deal for him with Forest. A Spor report Besiktas will approach the Reds over a fee for the defender.
