Pipeline burst in Guwahati causes massive water gush, one killed, several injured | Video
Panic gripped Assam’s Guwahati on Thursday after a municipal body’s water supply pipe ruptured and burst, triggering a major water gush. A woman was killed and several people were injured following the pipe burst incident in Kharghuli area in Guwahati, news agency ANI reported.
The pipeline is maintained by Gammon JICA.
Dramatic visuals of the incident are now viral, showing a massive water gush, several vehicles being washed away and damaging several houses in the area.
It caused a flood-like situation in the area, with water getting splashed several feet away.
As per local reports, the tragedy affected 600 people, prompting the authorities to swiftly respond to the situation and rush the injured to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for immediate medical attention.

“One woman identified as Sumitra Das Rabha was brought dead at GMCH. So far eight other injured persons have been admitted at GMCH. Out of them, three are minors,” Dr Abhiit Sarma, Superintendent of Guwahati Medical College and Hospital told news agency ANI.
Meanwhile, the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has assured that the water supply will be restored soon.
