Piers Morgan has revealed he is still dealing with the “irritations of long COVID” and still can't taste fine wine weeks after battling the virus.

The former Good Morning Britain presenter tested positive for the coronavirus in July and has said he believes he caught it at Wembley during the Euros 2020 final.

Morgan – who previously warned people not to underestimate the effects of long COVID – has now told his Twitter followers that he is still struggling with his sense of taste.

“Of all the many irritations of Long Covid, not least me banging on about it, an ongoing inability (15 weeks after infection) to taste good wine and regular coffee is the worst,” he wrote.

When someone remarked that he could save plenty of money by drinking bad wine for now, Morgan quipped: “On balance, I’d rather die.”

Although he did say that his dad had done just that.

“When my father had this issue after COVID he drank £3 bottles of Peruvian merlot and pretended it was Chateau Latour 61,” wrote the presenter.

In August, Morgan told his fans that he had an issue with his eyes after having COVID.

“28-day COVID update: a new treat – aside from ongoing tedious fatigue & inability to taste wine, all the coughing's caused a 'posterior vitreous detachment' in my left eye,” he tweeted.

“So, I'm now seeing weird ghostly cobwebs swimming around. It really is the virus that keeps on giving.”

The 56-year-old previously revealed in the Mail on Sunday that he began to feel ill two days after England's defeat in the Euros and then tested positive for COVID.
