Liverpool injury woes continue as two more players ruled out of Carabao Cup final

Liverpool’s injury crisis has worsened yet again with Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones now expected to be ruled out of next weekend’s Carabao Cup final against Chelsea.

Both players were forced off in the first half against Brentford, with striker Darwin Nunez also substituted at half-time after the Uruguayan picked up a niggle.

Klopp is already set to be without Trent Alexander-Arnold due to a knee injury, while there are also doubts about the availability of Dominik Szoboszlai and Alisson, who picked up an injury in training on Friday.

The club is still awaiting scan results on Jota and Jones but early suggestions are that both will miss the final on Sunday.

Reports in Portugal claim Jota is expected to be sidelined for around two months, while there is less known about the exact timeline for Jones’ return, according to The Times.

Nunez may still recover in time for the Wembley clash, with Klopp saying after the Brentford came that he wasn’t willing to risk the striker after the earlier injuries suffered.

Alongside the latest slew of injuries, Klopp is still without Thiago, Joel Matip and Stefan Bajcetic who remain sidelined with longer-term problems.

Prior to the final against Mauricio Pochettino’s side, the Reds host Luton in midweek as they look to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points.

The German boss is expected to provide further updates at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday but the latest developments come at an inopportune time for his side.

After the Carabao Cup final, Liverpool face a midweek FA Cup fixture against Southampton, with the resumption of the Europa League as well as a key fixture against title rivals Manchester City on the horizon.

Chelsea, meanwhile, will be without key central defender Benoit Badiashile for Sunday’s final.

The Blues, however, have been boosted in recent weeks with the return of central defensive duo Levi Colwill and Trevor Chalobah who both played in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Saturday.
