Philadelphia Eagles Defense: Where Do They Rank?
The Philadelphia Eagles have over the last two years engineered some major changes on the defense … on the fly.
So, now that the dust has settled (for the most part) on free agency and the NFL Draft … Where does the defense rank going into 2024? Bleacher Report has a look …
Philadelphia Eagles Defense: Where Do They Rank?
In 2022, the Philadelphia Eagles defense was dominant, helping to lead them to the Super Bowl in that season. Last year, however, that defense fell off and was a primary reason the Eagles collapsed in the second half of 2023.
The exit of Jonathan Gannon, who took the head coaching job in Arizona, and the transition to new defensive coordinator Sean Desai could be a major factor in the Eagles defensive woes.
This year’s squad will look a lot different than they did in 2023. The Eagles have made significant changes on every level of the defense to try and improve on the dismal end of last year. They signed Bryce Huff and Devin White and then drafted Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean to bolster their defense. They will field a squad that is young and exciting and ready to bounce back from a miserable second half of the season.
The Eagles secondary was the biggest loser in their second half collapse a season ago. James Bradberry took a huge step back from 2022, when the defensive line was he best pass rushing front in the NFL. They took a step back last year, and so did Bradberry. The Eagles can improve by allowing Mitchell and DeJean to have major roles from the beginning.
The godfather of a whole defensive coaching tree is in charge now, and it will be fun to see how Vic Fangio can turn this defense around.
There are a lot of questions surrounding this defense, and that’s why Bleacher Report ranks them at No. 21 in the NFL.
