‘Was asked to lose 10 kg to meet Rahul Gandhi’: Baba Siddique’s son Zeeshan

A day after his ouster from the Mumbai Youth Congress chief post, Congress MLA and Baba Siddique’s son Zeeshan Siddique on Thursday alleged discrimination within the party. He alleged that during a Bharat Jodo Yatra, a person from Rahul Gandhi’s team asked him to lose weight if he wanted to meet the Wayanad MP.

“Rahul Gandhi is a good leader, he does his job. Mallikarjun Kharge is like a father-figure to me. But sometimes, despite his seniority, even Kharge ji’s hands are tied. The team surrounding Rahul Gandhi is destroying the party; it looks like they have taken supari from another party to finish Congress,” Zeeshan Siddique said.

“When I took part in Bharat Jodo Yatra, a person close to Rahul Gandhi said ‘pehle 10 kg kam kar fir Rahul ji se milaunga (Lose 10 kg first and then you can meet Rahul Gandhi)’. I am an MLA, the chief of Mumbai Youth Congress. You are body-shaming someone?” he said.

Siddique alleged “Rahul Gandhi’s team is very corrupt”.Â

“Rahul Gandhi himself is doing good work, but he is unable to understand that his team is so rude,” he added.

Earlier this month, Zeeshan Siddique’s father, Baba Siddique, joined the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), days after he left Congress. Zeeshan Siddique, who remained with the Congress, said that with the way things are going in the party, he may have to look at other options.

“Till last week, I said that I will stay with the Congress. But the way Congress is behaving, and the way things are going, the writing on the wall is clear. It looks like Congress doesn’t need the minorities, doesn’t need us. Then we will have to look at our options. This is very unfortunate,” Zeeshan Siddique said.

He further said that he has no idea as to why he was removed from the post of Mumbai Youth Congress chief. Siddique said, “There was no dialogue, no calls from senior leadership.”
