El presidente Gustavo Petro aseguró este jueves que el “progresismo sí merece cuatro años más” en el poder después de que él termine su mandato el 7 de agosto de 2026. (Lea: Petro propondrá que se eleve el umbral en la pensional a cuatro salarios mínimos).

“Solo en dos años hemos hecho lo que los gobiernos de Colombia hicieron en diez años, y nos quedan dos (…) aunque yo sí creo que el progresismo si merece cuatro años más después de estos dos años porque estas reformas hay que avanzarlas”, expresó el mandatario durante la inauguración de un centro médico en el departamento del Cesar.

Petro afirmó además, que “cuando hablo así cree la señora amiga mía de la revista (la directora de Semana, Vicky Dávila): ‘uy ya se va a quedar, el dictador’. Dictaduras es lo que hemos tenido en Colombia (…) yo digo el progresismo, el pueblo en el poder, la Colombia que avanza ni va a retroceder más”.

En ese sentido, Colombia, en opinión de Petro, debe “avanzar hacia una nación y una nación no derrama su sangre, no se autodestruye, va hacia los objetivos comunes y el objetivo común es que cada persona (…) pueda vivir en cualquier lugar del territorio nacional sintiendo orgullo y dignidad de estar en este paraíso”.

En 2005, Álvaro Uribe (2002-2010) logró aprobar una modificación constitucional para la reelección presidencial inmediata, algo que no contemplaba la carta magna y que le permitió estar en el poder dos mandatos consecutivos.

El último presidente que logró ser reelegido fue Juan Manuel Santos, quien gobernó entre 2010 y 2018, pero una vez conseguido su segundo periodo impulsó una reforma constitucional que acabó con la reelección presidencial inmediata en 2015.
