A 30-year-old satellite has finally re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere after a “very successful mission”, says astronomer-at-large Fred Watson.
‘Fitting end’: 30-year-old satellite re-enters atmosphere after ‘successful mission’
“It landed in the ocean, North Pacific Ocean in the small hours of this morning,” Mr Watson told Sky News Australia.
“A reentry of the spacecraft that’s more than 30 years old – it’s been an exemplary return of this spacecraft to the Earth’s atmosphere.
“Most of it burned up, there was a debris trail, we don’t know whether anything actually fell into the ocean.
“Fitting end in a way to a triumphant European mission.”
