Yankees’ Aaron Boone ejected for first time in 2024 MLB season
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone lasted 12 games before earning his first ejection of the 2024 MLB season.
Though Boone has said he wants to get the boot fewer times this season after leading MLB in ejections last year, he clearly believed his team needed a jolt Wednesday night. This is especially true on a pair of at-bats revolving around Alex Verdugo.
The first-year Yankees left fielder was rung up on a bad call in the fifth inning with runners on first and second and one out. The pitch was clearly outside as Verdugo check his swing. However, home plate umpire John Bacon called a strike on the pitch, infuriating Verdugo.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, with the Yankees down 4-1, Verdugo faced a 1-1 count when he got another slider outside the zone. Again, Bacon called it a strike, and Boone started barking from the dugout.
It didn’t take long before Bacon rang Boone out of the stadium, but the latter gave him a few words before exiting.
