The governorship bid of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah, received a boost recently when the former chairman of Ezeagu Local Government Council, Fred Chukwudi Ezinwa donated a branded Toyota Sienna vehicle, three motorcycles, as well as souvenirs to the Peter Mbah Grassroots Movement (PGM), one of the groups mobilising support for the PDP flag bearer.
Ezinwa said the Mbah campaign train will tour the 17 local governments to engage the various localities in town hall meetings. He added that this would enable him to ascertain what the people need most. He said: “So if he eventually wins the election, the task ahead would be easier.”
The former Ezeagu local government chairman between 2016 and 2019 was an operator in the oil and gas sector before he ventured into politics; when he became a senior special adviser to the governor.
Ezinwa noted that the Ezeagu South town hall meeting, which took place recently, was aimed at welcoming the incoming governor and interacting with him.
He said: “The Board of Trustees (BOT) members you see today are from different parts of Enugu State. They include Prince Lawrence Eze (BOT chairman of PGM), Chief Mike Onu (member representing Nkanu East), Okezie Nwajoku (representing Aninri), and Frank Ngwu (representing Udenu). “
Meanwhile, I am representing Ezeagu on the PGM BOT. PGM is a frontline grassroots support group. The people came in their numbers in solidarity to cheer me as a member of the BOT representing Ezeagu Local Government at the Ezeagu South Development Centre.”
He said Dr Mbah convinced him to come on board for the benefit of the people. “This is a man, I believe, who will do things differently. I have listened to his manifesto; his programmes for Enugu State, if implemented will translate to good dividends for the people.”
Ezinwa said the branded Toyota Sienna vehicles were procured as one of the vehicles that will be on the campaign trail to all the hooks and crannies of the Ezeagu community.
He added: “The three motorcycles were designed for the door-to-door campaign. We have also designed cartons of trays as souvenirs to make sure all the gifts get across to the people in the various communities we will be stopping at during the campaign.
“We are a self-financed support group. So, we do not want people to give us money.”
Eze said the BOT members were at the event because of Ezinwa. His words: “We are here simply because of one of our chairmen, Fred Chukwudi Ezinwa.”
He said Ezinwa has provided massive support for the group, in terms of campaign materials.
