IPOH – Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) Tronoh, Paul Yong Choo Kiong pada Selasa diarah membela diri atas pertuduhan merogol pembantu rumah warga Indonesia, tiga tahun lalu.

Hakim Mahkamah Tinggi, Datuk Abdul Wahab Mohamed membuat keputusan itu setelah mendapati pihak pendakwaan berjaya mewujudkan prima facie bagi kes tersebut.

Pendakwaan dikendalikan Pengarah Pendakwaan Negeri Perak, Azlina Rasdi bersama Timbalan Pendakwa Raya, Liyana Zawani Mohd Radzi dan Mohd Fitri Sadarudin, manakala Paul Yong diwakili Peguam Datuk Rajpal Singh dan Salim Bashir.

Pertuduhan ke atas Paul Yong, 51, dibuat mengikut Seksyen 376 (1) Kanun Keseksaan yang membawa hukuman penjara sehingga 20 tahun dan boleh dikenakan sebat, jika sabit kesalahan.

Pada 28 September lalu, pihak pendakwaan menutup kesnya selepas memanggil 23 saksi termasuk dua saksi terlindung untuk memberi keterangan sepanjang perbicaraan kes itu berlangsung bermula pada 5 April lalu.

Mengikut pertuduhan, Paul Yong didakwa merogol pembantu rumah berusia 23 tahun itu di sebuah bilik di tingkat atas rumahnya di Meru Desa Park antara jam 8.15 malam hingga 9.15 malam pada 7 Julai 2019.

Beliau didakwa di Mahkamah Sesyen Ipoh pada 23 Ogos 2019 ketika memegang jawatan Exco Perumahan, Kerajaan Tempatan, Pengangkutan Awam, Hal Ehwal Bukan Islam dan Kampung Baru Perak.

Pada 15 Disember 2020, Mahkamah Persekutuan membenarkan permohonan pembelaan supaya ia dipindahkan ke Mahkamah Tinggi untuk perbicaraan.
