New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday took a strong exception to comments made by RV Asokan, the president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA). Notably, during an interview with news agency PTI, Asokan said that it was “unfortunate” that the top court criticised the IMA and private doctors.

Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi representing Patanjali Ayurved flagged the remarks. The bench asked Rohatgi to bring the IMA Director’s interview on record, reported NDTV.

“Bring it on record. This will be more serious than what has been happening till now. Be prepared for more serious consequences,” said Justice Amanullah as quoted by the media house.

Pulling up Ashokan, the bench told the IMA’s counsel how could he decide what the court would do and if that was correct.

Meanwhile, during the interview, the IMA chief had said, “We sincerely believe they need to look at what was the material before them. They perhaps did not consider that this was not the issue that was before them in the court. “

“It does not behove the Supreme Court to take a broadside against the medical profession of the country which after all sacrificed so many lives for the Covid war,” he had added.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court stated that Patanjali Ayurved had made a marked improvement by mentioning its co-founder Ramdev’s name in its apology in the matter related to misleading advertisements.

“There has been a marked improvement. There was only Patanjali earlier, now there are names. We appreciate that.” the bench comprising Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanulla said.

The SC also pulled up the Uttarakhand State Licensing Authority for inaction in the case of the misleading advertisement involving Patanjali Ayurved Limited.
