The Pacific Adventure was due to dock in Sydney in the early hours, but was delayed as police searched for the overboard passenger.
“NSW Police Marine Area Command have deployed a number of resources to search for the person and are leading the coordination of the water search,” a police spokesperson said.
A passenger, who gave his name as Greg, told Ben Fordham Live on 2GB that strobe lights were activated to give the search team more visibility and passengers could see multiple tug boats around the ship.
“We got woken up with the man overboard call and from there it’s been all on for a couple of hours now,” he said.
The P&O cruise was on its final day of a three-night Elvis tribute voyage complete with themed parties, karaoke and trivia.
