Parent company Blokker not listed on the stock exchange for the time being

In its own words, MRG was already well on its way with the preparations for the IPO. It should have happened next year. In connection with the step, CEO Michiel Witteveen would hand over the daily management. He would then become chairman of the supervisory board on 1 February, and current chairman Dirk-Jan Stoppelenburg would take his place as top man. That change of management will now only be finalized later.

MRG has several chains, including electronics chain BCC. Until recently, Big Bazar was also part of it, but in October it was announced that a new owner had been found for the budget store chain. In total, the group currently has 710 stores and 8100 employees. Witteveen emphasizes in a statement that it has recently been successful in renewing the retail group and finding its way back to profitability. This strategy, in which online store activities also play an important role, will now be continued.

Earlier this year, Witteveen called the stock exchange plans still necessary for the future of the company. But he also indicated that there were drawbacks. The pressure to perform would immediately increase. The CEO now emphasizes that the current erratic market conditions are beyond the company’s control. He cannot say when MRG would still want to go public. The stock exchange plans have been postponed “indefinitely”.
