my record wasn’t…: wasim akram makes cheeky remark after yashasvi jaiswal equals pak legend’s feat vs england
Yashasvi Jasiwal has been the talk of the town for his brilliant performances in the Test series against England. He was especially destructive in the second innings of the third Test match where he became only the third Indian in history to smash two back to back double centuries in consecutive Test matches. During his innings he broke a number of records. He in fact equalled a 28-year-old record held by Wasim Akram. Now, Akram has made a tongue-in-cheek comment aimed at the young Indian opener.
In his innings of 214 from 236 balls, Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed 12 sixes. This is the joint highest by any batter in the history of Test cricket in a single innings as he equalled Wasim Akram, who hit 12 sixes en route to his 257-run knock in 1996 against Zimbabwe in Sheikhpura.
In an interaction with A Sports, Akram said with a smile that his record of hitting the most sixes in a Test innings was not broken but equalled by Yashasvi Jaiswal. He also reminisced about his innings of 257, saying that it was not easy to bat.
“My record (most sixes in an innings) wasn’t broken, it’s been equalled by Yashasvi Jaiswal. People talk a lot that it was Zimbabwe, but it wasn’t that easy. I remember we were around 170/6 when I went to bat,” the legendary Pakistan fast bowler said.
Yashasvi Jaiswal also became the sixth Indian to score a double century in the second innings of a Test Match, and the third Indian left-hander with more than one double century in Test Cricket.
Jaiswal also discussed about his journey in Test Cricket and the hardships he had to face.
“In India, when you grow up, you work really hard for each and everything. Even when getting the bus you have to work really hard to get on the bus. You have to work really hard to get to the train and auto and everything and I have done that since my childhood and I know how important every innings is and that’s why I work hard in my [practice] sessions and every innings counts for me and my team.”
