20 Best-Selling Games of January 2024 Revealed
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 tops January 2024 sales despite being released in November 2023.
- Tekken 8 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League follow closely behind in the top 3 rankings.
- Hogwarts Legacy maintains strong sales from 2023 into the new year.
The 20 best-selling video games for January 2024 have just been revealed, showing which titles have drawn in the most customers since the start of the year. 2023 was pretty eventful for the gaming industry, both in landmark events like Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard buyout finally being completed and the releases of some highly-anticipated titles. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Starfield are just a few of the chart-topping games released in the past year.
2024 already looks to continue that momentum. Tekken 8 evolved the long-running fighting franchise with a gripping storyline and more “aggressive” gameplay, and Palworld burst onto the scene and became one of Steam’s highest-played titles despite accusations that it copied much of its colorful premises from Pokemon. This wave of new games carried on into early February, with Persona 3 Reload re-imagining the classic 2006 JRPG with updated graphics, music, and voice acting.

Circana, the research group formerly known as NPD, has published its January 2024 sales report, as shared by Executive Director and video game analyst Mat Piscatella on Twitter. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 landed the top spot in these rankings despite being released last November. Tekken 8 was the second-highest-selling title in January, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was ranked third due to Circana’s reporting period running through the beginning of February. This also meant that Persona 3 Reload was counted in the fourth-ranked spot after launching on the same day as Suicide Squad.

Despite its numerous controversies and criticisms, Hogwarts Legacy managed to rank near the top of the January 2024 sales list, continuing its massive success from last year. The rest of this list contains a mix of blockbuster hits from 2023 and other January 2024 releases – such as Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Palworld, despite its surprisingly massive player base on Steam and other platforms, is absent from Circana’s January 2024 listing due to developer Pocketpair not sharing its sales data.
Players should note that this chart is based on revenue rather than units sold, and that DLC and microtransactions are not included in these totals. Still, it seems that Modern Warfare 3 is the highest-selling title of January 2024, with the rest of Circana’s rankings containing some of the month’s most noteworthy releases. The rest of 2024 looks like it could be another exciting year for gaming, with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth now less than a week from launch and other big titles like Princess Peach: Showtime, Star Wars Outlaws, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle still on the horizon.
