There are now four Premier League clubs interested in an MLS striker recently revealed to be of interest to Liverpool, while Newcastle have opened talks with a sporting director who already knows who he would want to be their coach – all in Sunday’s Paper Talk.

Manchester United have registered an interest in Liverpool attacking target Ricardo Pepi, according to the Mirror.

Liverpool were recently revealed to be in the running for the signing of Pepi, who is rising to prominence in the MLS with FC Dallas.

Jurgen Klopp wants to bolster his attacking options due to a couple of concerns in attack. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino remain strong, but will all be 30 before the start of next season.

Furthermore, Salah and Mane are set to miss a portion of this season due to the African Cup of Nations. It will leave Liverpool light in the final third, with the impactful Diogo Jota likely having to step up. Doubts will continue about Divock Origi, though.

Therefore, Liverpool want to add another attacker in January and their plans may fit in with those of Pepi.

The 18-year-old has 13 goals from 27 games in the MLS this season. However, his campaign is likely to be curtailed from November due to Dallas likely not making it to the play-offs.

Pepi does not want to halt his progress and could therefore seek a transfer in January. According to the Mirror, Liverpool have registered an interest – but so have Man Utd.

United have strength in depth in an attack spearheaded by Cristiano Ronaldo. But he won’t be around forever and nor will Edinson Cavani.

Therefore, they could inject their frontline with more youth, after bringing in the likes of Jadon Sancho and Amad Diallo, while promoting Mason Greenwood from their own ranks.

Pepi may be the next to follow United’s strategy of building for the future. However, there is a catch.

He wants to be playing regularly and neither Liverpool nor United could offer him such guarantees at present. Alternatively, Brighton and Brentford are both watching him, as are some clubs in Germany and Italy.

But the bigger boys will be keen not to miss out on someone who could become a top talent in years to come. Therefore, Pepi’s future is all to play for.
