Papagomo charged with sedition over remarks on king

PETALING JAYA: Blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris, whose alter ego is believed to be Papagomo, has claimed trial to a charge of sedition over a statement involving the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Wan Azri, 41, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before judge Siti Aminah Ghazali at the Kuala Lumpur sessions court here today, Berita Harian reported.
According to the charge sheet, the offence was allegedly committed through a post on X under the account sir_azri at a condominium in Bukit Bintang at 12pm on April 29.
Wan Azri was charged under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, which carries a maximum fine of RM5,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Khairul Azreem Mamat prosecuted while Wan Azri was represented by Rafique Rashid Ali.
Khairul did not propose bail.
On Tuesday, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain confirmed that Wan Azri had been arrested at his residence in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.
Wan Azri is believed to have made the remarks in a video clip just under three minutes long in which he questioned the king’s decision to grant an audience to KK Mart owner Chai Kee Kan.
In the same video, he also allegedly claimed that the king had ordered Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, to be charged in court under the Sedition Act.
