Pang’s old video clip won’t ruffle feathers, say BN division heads

PETALING JAYA: Two division chiefs of Barisan Nasional parties have dismissed an old video of DAP’s Kuala Kubu Baharu candidate Pang Sock Tao criticising the coalition, saying it was “not a big issue” despite an MCA leader sharing the clip.
Hulu Selangor Umno chief Isa Abu Kassim told FMT the reality of politics was that political parties would take jabs at their rivals.
“The video of Pang criticising BN does not affect us as it’s an old video. In fact, whether it’s DAP, Umno, PAS or Bersatu, we all have made speeches taking aim at one another when we were political rivals,” he said.
Similarly, Hulu Selangor MIC chief K Balasundaram said the video would not cause the party’s supporters and members to boycott Pang, the unity coalition’s candidate.
He added that the spread of the video actually led to DAP leaders “extending a hand” to MIC.
“For example, Selangor DAP vice-chairman V Ganabatirau came to the MIC operations room today,” he said, adding that the Klang MP credited MIC for its efforts to champion Tamil vernacular schools.
“He said today that Tamil schools still exist in Malaysia to this day thanks to MIC. Before this, when we were against them, they said all kinds of things about us. Today, they recognise MIC’s contributions to the Indian community, so this has encouraged us.”
The video of Pang, who is press secretary to housing and local government minister Nga Kor Ming, was originally posted on TikTok in November 2022. In the video, she said Malaysians had “lost hope” in the country after more than 60 years of BN rule.
The video recently resurfaced and was also shared by MCA Youth chief Ling Tian Soon.
DAP publicity secretary Teo Nie Ching said the video was taken when Pang was campaigning for Pakatan Harapan during the 2022 general election.
