Ozempic-makers' weight-loss drug, Wegovy, coming soon to Canada
Many doctors say they will welcome Ligovi’s arrival in Canada to help people struggling with obesity and overweight. We Govie contains the same drug as Ozempic, but at a higher dose. It makes people feel full and suppresses appetite, working in both the brain and the stomach. Doctors stress that the drug should not be used for cosmetic purposes. In addition to people with obesity, We Govi can also be prescribed to patients with significant overweight and at least one related medical condition. Such as high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes or obstructive sleep apnea. Doctor Tom Elliott, the director of BC Diabetes, says making the drug more readily available will help address stigma for those trying to manage their weight. We’ve now got a drug that’s safe and that’s highly effective, and you only have to talk to people who are obese to ask them how, how hard they’re trying these. It’s it’s not their fault. It’s it’s not because they’ve got bad habits generally. There’s some genetic wiring. There are some other factors that we don’t understand as well. But but obesity is a medical condition and these people deserve to have treatments. The drug only works to suppress a person’s appetite for as long as they are taking it. Doctor Elliott cautions it could become quite expensive as most insurance plans are unlikely to cover the costs, which experts estimate will be about $400.00 a month.
