huge 658-mile wall of snow to hit uk as new weather maps turn purple

The latest weather maps from WXCharts show a huge wall of snow is set to hit the UK on February 22

UK weather maps are turning purple as a massive 685-mile wall of snow is set to cover Britain from top to bottom. WXCharts’ maps show that everywhere from the Scottish Highlands to Southampton will be blanketed with snow as icy conditions hit most of the UK at 6am on February 22.

This week, much of the UK has already experienced snow and freezing temperatures. Amber weather warnings were issued as a band of snow slowly moved up the country on Thursday, February 9, and Met Office yellow warnings remain in place for parts of Scotland for today (Saturday, February 10).

The latest maps suggest that snow will fall even further south than this week’s flurry. WXCharts’ maps show snowfall on February 21 too, for the Scottish Borders, northeast of England, East Anglia and the East Midlands, with London potentially getting some too.

In addition to the snow, temperatures are forecast to drop again on February 22, with parts of the country dipping as low as -5C. The Met Office consistently warns that it is hard to predict with accuracy when and how much snow will fall more than two days in advance. However, WXCharts was predicting snow for yesterday well before the Met Office issued weather warnings.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast for February 13 to 22 says: “The period [begins] cloudy with showers or longer spells of rain across north/north-western areas with drier conditions in the south.

“Becoming mainly dry by the middle of next week, especially in the east with the greatest chance for sunny spells, whereas western areas may see some rain or showers spread in from the Atlantic at times.”
