KUALA LUMPUR: A collaboration between the national anti-drugs agency (AADK) and the Federal Territories Islamic religious council (MAIWP) has resulted in the opening of the first AADK intermediary house at Jalan Raja Alang here.
AADK director-general Sutekno Ahmad Belon said the intermediary house provides aid referral assistance to those affected by drug addiction.
He said those who seek help are divided into two categories: individuals who have previously undergone treatment with AADK and completed their programmes, but still require guidance, and those who have never received services from any AADK facility in any district.
“They can walk in here and register, and we will conduct screenings and guide them through the process of receiving treatment and rehabilitation,” he told reporters at the centre today.
Sutekno said people have the option to bring their families to the facility if they wish.
“There are designated resting areas and space for confidential discussions with counsellors. This aspect is vital as we aim to ensure people do not navigate through recovery in isolation.
“Having a support system in place is imperative and people need others they can confide in and receive guidance from,” he said.
The facility is open from Monday to Friday from 8am to 8pm for registration and client acceptance, while referrals after office hours or public holidays need to be made through the Hello AADK Hotline at 1-800-22-2235 or via WhatsApp at 019-626-2233.
