Mercer CEO faces greenwashing Senate inquiry grilling

The Greens-led Senate committee into greenwashing continued in Canberra with a range of guests appearing.

Greenwashing is a practice where companies can overstate their green credentials or are unclear on the standards used to assess their product as environmentally friendly or socially responsible.

Last November, superannuation fund Mercer Financial Advice Australia was ordered to pay a $12 million penalty by the Federal Court.

This was after they were found to have failed in their fee disclosure obligations and were charging fees to customers they were not entitled to charge.

Mercer Super CEO Tim Barber says the company has “fully cooperated” with ASIC during the inquiry into the matters.
