Es ist ein aussergewöhnlicher Moment. Vincent Kriechmayr hat gerade eine Bestzeit auf der schwierigsten Abfahrt der Welt aufgestellt und ist genau deshalb richtig wütend. Anstatt mit einem gewinnenden Lächeln Interviews zu geben, faucht der Oberösterreicher die verdutzten Reporter an: «Jetzt beginnt wieder die Fragerei wegen der Favoritenrolle. Genau das wollte ich nicht!» Die Szene spielte sich im vergangenen Januar nach dem Abschlusstraining zur Hahnenkamm-Abfahrt ab.

Kriechmayr lässt sich von niemanden verbiegen

Der amtierende Abfahrts- und Super-G-Weltmeister schüttelt den Kopf, wenn er an diese Situation zurückdenkt. «Ich weiss ja, dass meine Reaktion nicht in Ordnung war», gesteht der 30-Jährige. «Aber ich wollte in Kitzbühel wirklich nicht Trainingsbestzeit fahren, weil ich vor dem Rennen meine Ruhe haben wollte. Aber mit dieser Bestzeit habe ich natürlich einen Medienrummel ausgelöst und bin dann in den beiden Abfahrten deutlich am Podium vorbeigefahren.»

Es ist eine Geschichte, die typisch ist für Vincent Kriechmayr. Er lässt sich von niemandem verbiegen. Der Bauernsohn aus der Region Linz spricht meistens das aus, was er denkt. Und was sich andere womöglich hin und wieder verkneifen würden.

Wie beim umstrittenen Thema Olympische Spiele in Peking. Während eine Mikaela Shiffrin bereits medienwirksam über einen Boykott der kommenden Spiele nachgedacht hat, sagt Kriechmayr ganz ehrlich: «Ich würde für Olympische Spiele sogar nach Nordkorea fliegen, schliesslich kann ich nichts dafür, wenn das IOC das wichtigste Grossereignis in unserem Sport an solche Orte vergibt!»

«Karriere ist zeitlich begrenzt»

Und einmal angepikst, nimmt Kriechmayr richtig Fahrt auf. «Meine Karriere ist zeitlich begrenzt, ich werde nicht so viele Chancen erhalten, Olympia-Gold zu gewinnen. Natürlich wünsche auch ich mir nachhaltige Spiele in einem Land, in dem die Menschenrechte nicht verletzt werden. Wenn das nicht passt, ist es an der FIS oder an den Olympischen Landesverbänden, zu intervenieren.»

Aber noch sind die Spiele von Peking (4. bis 20. Februar 2022) ein ganzes Stück entfernt. Auf die Speed-Spezialisten warten jetzt erst einmal zwei Super-G und zwei Abfahrten auf der berüchtigten «Birds of Prey» in Beaver Creek. Dass seine Form passt, hat Kriechmayr mit dem zweiten Rang bei der Lake-Louise-Abfahrt gezeigt.

Zweiter war der Ösi übrigens auch 2019 bei der bislang letzten Abfahrt in Beaver Creek. Der Sieger hiess damals Beat Feuz ��
