Red-hot Stormers star Hacjivah Dayimani is reportedly set to miss out on the first Springboks alignment camp of Rassie Erasmus’ second tenure at the helm of the side.

Dayimani has been brilliant for the Cape side all season long with his electric running and ever-improving defence highlights of his game plan this campaign.

The unfortunate limitation for the Stormer is that his skill-set does not fit the traditional mould of the national side. His wait for involvement with the Springboks appears as though it will continue.

According to local newspaper, Rapport, hooker Joseph Dweba and Sharks speedster Aphelele Fassi are also expected to miss out on the alignment camp.

New talent

Whilst the high-profile trio misses out, there are some impressive young stars who have supposedly been invited to the first training camp as Erasmus begins the search for a balance between deploying the old guard and blooding new talent.

Bulls number eight Cameron Hanekom is said to be amongst the group being called up after he burst onto the scene earlier this season with a series of blockbuster performances.

Fellow Bulls back-row Mpilo Gumede, Johan Grobbelaar and Jan-Hendrik Wessels’ names also feature as does Lions stars Ruan Venter, Jordan Hendrikse, Quan Horn, Henco van Wyk as well as half-backs Sanele Nohamba and Morne van den Berg.

Times Live reported that Stormers starlet Suleiman Hartzenberg will also be on that list after having been previously involved with South Africa ‘A’.

Whilst it has not been explicitly reported, it would not be a surprise to see the multi-talented Sacha Feinburg-Mngomezulu in the mix as well.

Evolution

It will be fascinating to see the complete list as Erasmus begins the latest evolution of the back-to-back world champions.

Unlike the last Rugby World Cup cycle, the Springboks may not be able to rely on the same core of players, with a lot of the two-time winners set to be in their mid-thirties come the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

With that in mind, it will be a monumental feat if Erasmus can build a new-look side and go on to win an unprecedented three-peat.
