Overwatch 2 executive producer Jared Neuss has confirmed the game is hoping to improve future Mythic skins by adding more customization options. While it may not be able to make every Mythic skin as complex as Cyber Demon Genji, he hopes Overwatch 2 can do better with the special cosmetics in the future.

Mythic skins are a new cosmetic introduced in Overwatch 2’s seasonal structure which are unlocked via the Battle Pass and feature customizable options. However, Overwatch 2 fans have not been impressed with recent Mythic skins like Onryo Hanzo and Grand Beast Orisa, as they have about half as many options as Cyber Demon Genji, Amaterasu Kiriko, and other early examples.

During an interview on Twitch with Overwatch 2 streamer SVB, executive producer Jared Neuss confirmed the game is looking to improve Mythic skins in the future. He recognized the smaller number of customization options was frustrating to many players. While he said Blizzard may not be able to give every Mythic skin the staggering number of options from Cyber Demon Genji, it can do better than the few Onryo Hanzo and Grand Beast Orisa received in Overwatch 2, and that it is already making changes to add more options to future ones.

In the past, Neuss had said certain Mythic skins, including Onryo Hanzo and Grand Beast Orisa, focused more on VFX than customization options. However, player feedback has made it clear this explanation is not sufficient, and it sounds like Neuss and the Overwatch 2 team are going to try to improve future skins to better satisfy players. Neuss has not said if Overwatch 2 will add more options to existing Mythic skins in the future, so it seems unlikely they will receive these changes.

Overwatch 2 fans seem cautiously optimistic after Neuss’ words about the Mythic skins. After Orisa’s skin fell into the same pitfalls as Hanzo’s, many were angry with Overwatch 2, saying it shouldn’t commit to a Mythic skin every season if it couldn’t deliver more than a handful of options for each. While some players think it is unfair to not give all of these skins as much love as Cyber Demon Genji, most are curious to see how many options Overwatch 2 settles on for its Mythic Skins in the future.

When players finish their Battle Pass, they now get the option to claim the current Mythic skin, or choose from any previous ones they haven’t earned yet. If players aren’t impressed with Grand Beast Orisa, at least they have the option to choose one of the previous seven Overwatch 2 Mythic skins instead.
