Russia is responding to Ukraine’s “invisibility cloaks” with a new “camouflage suit” that will help its soldiers hide from opposing forces.
Russia unveiled the suits, which are expected to give those wearing it “perfect protection against thermal imaging equipment” used by Ukraine, on Friday, January 19, Knewz.com has learned.
The
Newsweek, citing Russia state news agency Tass, reports that the camouflage suits are coated with an unidentified compound that blurs the wearer’s silhouette.
“Tests of the latest suit are ongoing,” HiderX, the manufacturer, said. “Work on the product is planned to be completed by the end of January.”
“We are developing a fundamentally new product,” the company added, according to the Tass report. “This is a completely Russian technology.”
It’s unclear when the suits will be introduced to Russian troops. It’s also unclear if they will be used by Russian forces in Ukraine.

Both sides have been developing technology to allow them to operate in little to no light.
Newsweek previously reported that Ukraine was capable of producing 150 invisibility cloaks per month. The country was working to expand to mass production.
While the invisibility cloaks sound like something from the Harry Potter book and movie series, Ukraine’s vice prime minister Mykhailo Fedorov said the “invisibility cloaks in fairy tales” had become a reality.
However, the cloak “cannot be used during rapid movement, which is accompanied by excessive heat release and minor leakage through the ventilation holes in the cloak,” Maxim Boryak, part of the team developing the cloak under the Brave1 research program, told Newsweek in October.

Fedorov explained in a Telegram post that the cloaks would likely be used by Ukrainian snipers.
The cloaks weigh less than 5.5 pounds and is resistant to extreme weather, such as snowy conditions.
While the Russia-Ukraine war doesn’t appear to be ending anytime soon, Ukraine has made some significant progress in recent days.
As Knewz.com reported on Friday, January 19, Ukrainian drones struck an oil depot in the Brynsk region and a gunpowder factory in Kotovsk in back-to-back attacks.
The attacks came a day after a Ukrainian drone similarly struck a significant oil terminal in St. Peterburg.

The oil depot in the city of Klintsy in Bryansk Oblast was set ablaze as a result of the drone strike on Friday, January 19, as video footage showed huge columns of flames rising from the compound while volumes of smoke filled the sky.
The Russian Defense Ministry has claimed that the damage done to the oil depot is the result of a thwarted drone assault.
Regional Governor Oleksandr Bogomaz wrote about the drone strike on Telegram, saying, “An aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicle was suppressed by electronic warfare equipment of the Russian Ministry of Defense. When an air target was destroyed, ammunition was dropped onto the territory of the Klintsovsk oil depot.”
Meanwhile, a Russian T90 tank took a beating from an American-built Bradley armored vehicle while fighting in Stepove in Donetsk the same day.

Drone footage on X shows the hulking Russian tank taking rapid fire from the Bradley vehicle. After the second salvo, a large explosion occurs from the Russian tank.
Additional footage published on Telegram shows the T90 tank approaching an intersection, the Bradley can be seen crossing its path while firing its gun.
The view from this video shows the Bradley striking its target while moving. After the tank takes a few knocks, its turret starts rotating continuously before the vehicle veers off the road and crashes into a tree.
It then reverses a short distance before three figures exit and run for cover.
According to The Telegraph, two Russian crew members were killed after fleeing the tank and a third was captured.
