Oklahoma vs. FSU softball live score, updates, highlights from Game 1 of 2023 Women’s College World Series finals

It’s a rematch of the 2021 Women’s College World Series finals, with No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 3 Florida State meeting for a best-of-three series.

Oklahoma has been dominating the field on a 51-game win streak, leaving no mercy when it comes to who their opponent is. The Sooners haven’t lost a game since Feb. 19 against Baylor and recently broke the NCAA Division I record for consecutive wins.

Since the postseason began with the Big 12 Tournament, the Sooners have outscored their opponents 85-15 in 10 outings. That’s two Big 12 Tournament games, three NCAA regional games, two NCAA super regional games and three Women’s College World Series games.

Florida State won its semifinal against Tennessee on Monday, 5-1, securing a place in the final series for the second time in three years.

Last time a top-seeded Oklahoma team and Florida State met in the finals series was in 2021, where the Sooners walked away with their first of two consecutive national titles (fifth overall) over the then-No. 10 Seminoles.

FSU has only won one NCAA championship, in 2018. The Seminoles are currently carrying a 58-9 record, opposed to Oklahoma’s 59-1.

Women’s College World Series live updates, highlights from Game 1

9:13 p.m.: The last time Florida State won a national title was 2018. As stated above, Oklahoma and Florida State met in 2021, where OU walked away with the win, 5-1.

9:12 p.m.: Mudge is struck out. Seven pitch inning for Jordy Bahl after second batter is tagged out at first and third batter is caught out.

9:10 p.m.: Game time. Jordy Bahl on the mound for the Sooners. Kaley Mudge batting first for the Seminoles.

9:07 p.m.: The only team to have three wins in a row is UCLA, between 1988 and 1990. If Oklahoma wins this series, they will become the second team to reach that feat. They took home the 2021 and 2022 titles. It would also be their sixth in 10 years.

How to watch 2023 Women’s College World Series finals Game 1

ESPN is carrying coverage of the Women’s College World Series finals this year. Beth Mowins, Michele Smith, Jessica Mendoza and Holly Rowe will be the sole team on the call for every game.

On Wednesday, the first pitch of Game 1 will be thrown at 9:10 p.m. ET (8:10 p.m. CT, locally). It was originally set for 8/7 p.m. ET/CT, but it was delayed due to lightning in the area.

The best-of-three series is being played at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, as it has been 32 times since 1990.

The USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium became the primary host in 1990, after spending two years at Twin Creeks Sports Complex in Sunnyvale, Calif. and it’s first six years at Seymor Smith Park in Omaha, Neb.

The only times the finals weren’t played in Oklahoma in that time span was in 1996, where they were stationed at Golden Park in Columbus, Ga., leading into that summer’s Atlanta Olympics.
